Mom greets her son with a
warm embrace, asking him to enjoy a cup of coffee with her before he goes. It's
early, in fact. So, yes - Ron decides to visit with his mother.
She is laughing and looking
at the photos as they enjoy their coffee. One of Julie catches her eye
and she eases out, "You know.....there's just something about Julie
lately. She appears to be holding back something from me. What's
the deal, or do you know?"
There's just nothing like
not 'being in the loop' where one's relationship is concerned, so Ron immediately
responds. "You're right. She IS holding back something."
He pauses, drifts his eyes towards the wall and attaches a sullen, forlorn
look to his face and eases out, "She rejected me this morning."
Then, "Sorry."
Mother gasps in shock. "Oh,
how could she? You poor boy," she eases out, delivering a loving
pat to his knee.
Ron takes a deep sigh then
releases, "She claimed to have had a headache."
Julie has a headache all right
- she's married to him! Mother and Ron's conversation
escalates to ridiculous with Mother promising to have a girl-to-girl chat with
Julie. Imagine innocent Julie's reaction to that!
But Julie being the warm and
caring individual that she is will deal effectively with Mother as she always
does. She does often ponder how Mother knows so much about her relationship
with her son, but of course Mother always claims intuition.
Yes, it's difficult to develop
a rock-hard steady relationship with a spy in the midst....
